Tent Repair
Basic tent repair may be necessary in order to keep your equipment in great shape and there are simple things you can do on your own to keep everything in working order.
Camping is one of the most fun past times of all times for people of all ages. There are many ways to go camping, such as RVs and cabins, but there is no doubt that the best way is still tent camping. This is the best way to get back to the basics and live out in the great outdoors. One thing you need to be sure of is that you know how to make repairs on your tent in the event that you get tears or leaks. After all, you do not want to be in a tent that will let in the pesky critters at night or one that will soak your gear in the event of a storm.
Below are some simple tips to help you do your own tent repair when you get a snag in your camping. This will help to ensure that you stay dry and bug free while enjoying the great outdoors.
It is important to remember that small tears can get bad and fast. This is why it is imperative that you carry a mending kit for tent repair with you when camping. You should keep your mending kit stocked with items such as these: straight pins, a grommet setter, small scissors, a sewing awl, repair tape that is made from taffeta for use on canvas tents and for nylon tents you will need ripstop nylon repair tape. You will also want to keep some scrape pieces of nylon to help make repairs. You should also keep on hand in your kit seam sealer for both types of tents so that you can seal up the seams when you are done with repairs.
You should keep a repair guide as well so if you get stuck as to how to make the repair, you will have a simple guide to walk you through the process.
NEVER spray your tent with bug repellant as this will damage the tent and weaken the water resistant coating on it.
When pitching your tent, be sure to clean the area up as best as you can to keep your tent safe from getting ripped or torn from sharp objects such as rocks or sticks.
Always do a check of the tent when you first put it up before you put anything in it. This way you can make the repairs right away before you get settled in for the night. You don?t want to wake up to a soaked tent or a bug filled one. The few minutes you take to inspect the tent will pay off in the long run.
You want your camping trip to be the best it can be so the last thing you want to do is waste all of your time working on your tent. Make the repairs as soon as you find the tears. This way you can get back to the basics and enjoying what nature has to offer.
