Propane Lantern
If you take proper care of it, a propane lantern can give you years of quality light and camping fun. It’s easy to maintain, and cleaning it is a simple, relatively easy process. Clean lanterns are brighter and more efficient, so they’ll save you money and give off better quality light, too. That’s why you should take the time to maintain your lamp. Here’s a short guide to tell you how to do it.
Before and after each use, you’re going to want to clean and inspect your lantern to prevent damage and unpleasant buildup. Warm water and a mild soap can be used to wipe the outside of the lantern as well as the glass shade. Dish soap or another light detergent will work very well. You’ll need to clean the inside of the shade as well as the outside, since insects, leaves, and other debris can easily get inside. Clean the burner as well, and allow the whole lantern to dry before you put it away. That keeps water damage from occurring. Remember to inspect the mantle after every use to make sure it’s not torn, cracked, or otherwise damaged. Many types of lanterns include a mantle that easily clips in and out, so it’s easy to replace a damaged one. Be sure to clean and inspect the valve for the propane container as well. More thorough inspections are appropriate at the beginning and end of the camping season. If you see spider webs around the burner, take the lantern apart and clean it with a wire brush. Remember to be gentle! Once you know the lamp is clean and functional, you can put it back into an air tight container to keep it in top shape, making sure it’s ready to use when you need it next. It’s easy to maintain your light, and a lot simpler than a traditional fuel lantern, which must be emptied and cleaned for long term storage, due to efficiency problem. Propane lanterns, on the other hand, have no such problems. Just keep them clean and check the seals, and you’ll be able to be certain that your lantern will serve you well. A good lamp should last you for many years, and it’ll have a better chance of doing so if you make sure you treat it well. Be sure to keep up on lantern maintenance and cleaning every time you go camping. You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes in the efficiency and light quality of your lantern. To keep your camp well lit, be sure to bring your propane lantern and keep it clean. Better than a flashlight or a fuel lantern, your propane lantern will offer clean, bright, reliable lighting.
