Family Size Tents

Do you need family size tents? If you're camping with the family, there are a lot of things you're going to need, from transportation to cookware and hiking gear. However, probably the most important thing you'll want for your camping trip will be a family size tent. There are lots on the market today, but most are pretty expensive, and it can be hard to tell if you're getting a good deal, or a costly tent that's going to fall apart a year from now. That's why none of us really want to run out and buy the first tent we see. It's a good idea to take it slow and find out a little bit about the tents on the market instead.

The average tent runs two hundred dollars or more, making it important to choose the large tents that will actually work for you and your family. Ask yourself a few questions about what you're going to need to do. How many people will you need to house, for instance? Much of the time, the ratings for family size tents assume that you'll be packed in like sardines. If you're going to want a little space, you should probably buy a tent rated for more people than need to sleep in it.

Will you need to hike into the campsite, making weight a factor? If you're driving to your site, size and weight aren't really a problem. However, if you'll be carrying your home on your back, you may find that a large, heavy tent could be a literal drag. Ultra light tents are great if you're going to be backpacking, but you'll tend to have to sacrifice space to use them. Remember that there's a balance between size and weight that we have to deal with if the tent's going to be carried. However, if there's no need to do so, your cargo space is the only limitation.

Find out how much floor space your prospective tent will have and how tall it will be at the peak. After all, many large size tents don't offer standing room, so if that's something you want, you're going to need to look for a fairly large tent. Plus, you'll need to make sure there's enough length or width for you to sleep when lying down. Decide how much time you'll want to spend in the tent and shop for size accordingly.

If you want some privacy or want the kids to have their own space, you can choose either two tents, or a larger family size tents with internal dividers that act as walls and doors. The latter is less expensive in many cases, and requires keeping track of only one tent. However, these larger tents are more complex to set up and offer less privacy than an entirely separate tent, so remember this when you buy.

Set the budget for your family size tents before you go shopping, as well. That way, you aren't as likely to overspend. Just make sure you know how much tent you're likely to get for a given amount of money and decide from there.
