Easy Camping Recipes
Yes, you can find easy camping recipes. If you're going to be going camping any time soon, you'll want to make sure you've got plenty of good food to eat. However, most of us don't have a lot of training when it comes to cooking over an open fire. You could invest in a propane stove, but that can be tricky if you aren't going to have a car to transport all you're belongings.
What you need are a few easy camping recipes. Fortunately, there are plenty of simple foods you can cook over a fire with a minimum of effort. Here are a few simple camping treats that don't even require any pots and pans.
Fire Roasted Corn
Ingredients:
- 1 ear of sweet corn per person, husks on
- salt and pepper to taste
- butter or margarine
Preparation:
Soak corn husks in water for fifteen minutes. Allow your wood fire to burn down until there are at least a few coals that can be raked away from the rest of the fire. Bury husk-on corn in coals and ashes, or place directly on coals. Turn several times in 20-30 minutes, so that corn is cooked evenly. Remove from fire, strip husks, and add salt, pepper and butter to taste. Eat right away.
Bacon and Eggs in a Bag
Ingredients:
- 2 pieces of bacon, thick-cut
- 1 egg
- salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
Place two pieces of bacon flat into a strong paper bag, then crack egg onto them. Salt and pepper to taste. Close bag, rolling the top down firmly. Thread a sturdy green stick through the rolled flap and hold the bag high enough over the fire to avoid burning it, for ten to fifteen minutes. When egg is cooked through, remove from bag and eat.
Coffee Can Ice Cream
Ingredients:
- 1 pint half and half or whole milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla OR 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup OR 1/4 cup
- strawberries
- Crushed ice
- Rock salt
Preparation:
Mix all ingredients save ice into a 1 pound empty coffee can. Secure lid onto can with tape. Place 1 pound coffee can into an empty three pound coffee can. Fill the space between the two cans with ice and salt and secure the lid of the three pound can. Have two people sit on the ground three to four feet apart and roll can for eight to ten minutes. Check ice cream for hardness. If it has not hardened, add more ice and salt and repeat until solid.
